About

I am Nicholas Hong

I create, shape, and refine digital 3D models.

As a New Media student at the University of Lethbridge, I focus on creating detailed and efficient models that will please the eye. I have worked on 3D models for both class projects, such as game projects and mock product posters, and for personal use, such as game modifications. I continue to create additional models in my free time for both practice and to realize some of the many ideas I have within me.

I have always enjoyed the fantastical elements of animated films, the fleshed out worlds of video games, and the effective way in which 3D modelling can transform rough ideas into product mock ups such as posters and digital 3D visualizations. This is what had encouraged me to pursue 3D modelling.

My self-taught 3D modelling skills had served me well in the past but in order to create professional and efficient models I had decided to dedicate my education to refining my skills, allowing me to create more detailed organic models more quickly. Having taken 3D modelling, graphic design, character animation, and 3D art courses to name a few, I now have a variety of skills in which to draw from if a project I am working on requires skills outside of 3D modelling.

My passion is to transform concepts and ideas into observable digital forms through 3D modelling. Through extrusions, molding, and cutting I can create a 3D digital model out of a mere idea. These models can be used in a wide variety of applications from video games to movies to posters. The wide applicability of 3D models is a great boon as I can work in different platforms to create a finalized product. This variability in form also allows me to experience a multitude of different perspectives on a singular subject, allowing for even greater creative freedom.

I like to work with both organic and inorganic concepts where I can appreciate the flowing curves or rigid complexity of these types of models respectively. Additionally, I work with real world objects in which I can create accurate representations through reference images or fantastical ones which cannot be referenced from the real world and must be thought out in detail.

Furthermore, I have the option to work with both props and characters which both offer different challenges and rewards. Working with props can be a simpler process but allows me to use different techniques for each prop depending on its form. Characters offer a more complex process in which many different techniques are needed to create the adequate form.

This freedom in creation is what draws me to 3D modelling and allows me to draw from my background to create forms fitting of the complexity of ideas.
